I actually have the LG Samba 8575, which is basically the LG Chocolate Touch phone, as there are multiple versions of it.  At any rate, I have Revol for my cellular phone provider and am unable to watch youtube videos on my phone.  The error message comes up that I need to update my Adobe Flash Player...but when I try to do that, the error message comes up on Adobe that my device is not supported or that my device does not support Adobe Flash Player(can't remember exactly what it said.)

Anyway, I called Revol tech support and had mixed responses.  They told me that they cannot guarantee that I will be able to play videos on my phone and would not tell me if the software was provided by Revol on my phone in order for me to play the youtube videos.  I really feel like I was lied to and given the run around, since I also called LG tech support and was told that normally my phone does not come with a flash player, that the cell phone provider has to provide that in my software.  Yet the Revol folk acted like they had no idea if the phones had the software or why it didn't if my phone was telling me it didn't.

While talking to the tech support at LG, I was told that I could probably find a flash program that I could install myself on my phone.  Sooooo...I am basically asking if anyone knows what I can use, where to get it and how to install it.

I would be forever grateful if someone could help me out!

Thanks in advance,

I've heard of the Samba, but not the carrier. But the Verizon Chocolate Touch can't play YouTube videos on the normal site either. To play YouTube videos you need to go to m.youtube.com in the web browser. It will load the mobile version of the site. When watching videos it will open in the phone's video player.

Hope this helps!

I already went to that version of the youtube site and it said my device wasn't supported.  Thing is, my sister and niece both have the same phone, just the touch version from Alltel/Verizon and they can play youtube videos no problem.  Have you not heard of a java applet that I can install to my phone?

Revol is a very small cellular company that is not nationwide yet, so most haven't heard of it unless they live in the few states it is available.

Is it possible that they were supposed to include software to play youtube videos, but didn't?  When I called the local store, I was told that others with the same phones CAN play youtube videos and that they would switch out my phone for another like it, but that they don't have any to do so.  So supposedly they were going to call around to different stores and see if they had any of the Samba left in store stock.  I never heard back.

How easy is it to install software to a phone?  I was told it was pretty simple.  Do I need to use Bitpim?

Thanks again for your help.

Oh the Samba runs Java... that explains alot. The Verizon version doesn't run Java. It runs BREW apps, which are locked to the carrier so you can't install apps from third party sites. But if the Samba has Java on it then there's probably an app somewhere that would allow you to watch YouTube videos. I don't have anything I could try any apps on so I think that's as much as I can help.

I'm actually still surprised the video didn't play from the mobile site. Did an error message come up or anything? Wait, what browser does the Samba use? Does it use Polaris like the Chocolate Touch?

I did finally get the mobile site to work, actually.  Just recently, after I had already replied.  But the video is very choppy and stops or skips areas when it isn't freezing up.  I think that is because I am not on a fast network with Revol.  It was like the phone finally decided to read the videos on the site...tho there are quite a few VEVO videos that are not compatible to the mobile site.  Which I am sure is intentional.

Anyway, my browser is Polaris 6.2. and I do have Brew...version 3.1.5.189 SPO3.  I had read there was a Polaris 7.0.  Is that correct?  Can I upgrade that or no?

Also...I just downloaded Zilla Tube and wanted to put converted videos on my phone card.  I put the video I was experimenting with in the my flix folder and I don't know how to watch it from there.  I even tried to put it in the my videos folder and it doesn't show up once the card is in the phone.  Can you help me?

Thanks...

Ya, videos will probably be choppy if you're not on a fast network. It usually works fine for me because Verizon has pretty fast speeds, but the video is still pretty bad quality. And I'm pretty sure VEVO isn't compatible with the mobile site.

About Polaris 7, I really wish you could upgrade. But I don't think you can. LG has to put out an update that installs Polaris 7. Polaris 7 supports Flash too. That's the main reason why I want it. And it has tabs.
I have the Polaris 7 files from the EnV Touch if  you wanted to try something out with them. But if you mess up it could make your phone unusable. I was going to try something with it once I get a new phone. I kind of rely on my phone because I don't have a home phone, so I don't want to mess anything up.

And for converting videos to put on the SD card, I use Freemake Video Converter. I haven't heard of Zilla Tube, but Freemake is really easy.
All videos need to be converted to .3GP format to play on the phone. I've read somewhere that .MP4 will work, but I've tried it and couldn't get it to work.

As for saving the videos to the card, I think the my_flix folder might just be for Verizon. Because my old RAZR used the my_flix folder for videos too. To find the right folder for the Samba you could try recording a video and saving it to the SD card from the phone. Then on the computer find where the video is and put the .3GP files there.

I wish I could upgrade to Polaris 7.0, too.  But I just got this phone with Revol and am not in the mood for having to come up with the money for another...so I will just leave it be for now.  Perhaps, if Revol upgrades to the 3G network, they may upgrade the browser software, too.  One can only hope, anyway.

Yeah, I did the video as a .MP4 and I can't even find it...LOL!  I was wondering if the .3GP format was more readable by phones on a faster network...if that makes any sense?  That's why I stuck with .MP4, as well I read it here somewhere that the .MP4 format should work on the CT.

I think I need to just leave it in the my videos area.  There really is no other place to drag it to.  And I have 2 recorded videos on the phone that I made.  They are in the my videos folder.

As for Zilla Tube...it allows me to take a youtube url and download it to my desktop and then convert it to whatever video format I choose from the list.  Pretty handy tool.

Thanks again...

Okay, I figured out what format I needed for my videos.  It's 3GPP2.  They play now and are the same format as the videos I made from the phone itself.  One problem tho...why are videos so quiet when I play them?  Even the videos I created myself are not nearly as loud as the music files or ringers on my phone.

Can you tell me if there is any other way to turn up the volume, other than the regular volume control on the left side?  This is kinda frustrating me.

There are 4 ways I know of to change the volume:
1. with the volume buttons
2. if you have a notification you can tap on the notification bar then click the top bar which is volume control, and set the volume there
3. go to Settings> Sound Settings> Master Volume and set it there.
4. click the Voice Command button, say Go To, then say Master Volume

Hopefully one of those will be better than the buttons on the side. I'm not a huge fan of using those either.  Tongue
