My son got a new Choc Touch. He put his music MP3's on the internal memory and they won't play. Does he have to put it on an external MicroSD memory card to get them to play. He doesn't have one yet. This is all very confusing he synced his songs with windows media player to the internal memory and they won't play.

I do know that the phone has 1gb of internal memory for songs and such.

Let me ask something...when he plugged the phone into the computer, did he tap the "sync music" button that appeared on the phone's screen?

Did the phone appear as an mp3 player available to sync when he opened Windows Media?

Let me know and I'll try to figure out what's going on.

Yes it showed up as portable media device or something in Windows media player and he synced to the phone.

Ok I gave him my 4Gb MicroSD card from my cell phone and he did the USB Mass storage thing and just dragged and dropped his mp3's to the card. They will now play from the external memory card. I am confused why it didn't work with the 1Gb internal memory. All the songs showed up in his onboard memory but wouldn't play....go figure. This is a mystery.

For the songs to play from the internal memory, they have to be synced with Media Player. The phone automatically loads and recognizes files from a card.

No they do not.  They can be dragged and dropped also.

How do you drag/drop onto the internal memory?  As far as I can tell, only the external card is visible to the PC, at least to File Explorer.

I have only the internal memory card, and I can easily connect to it (with Vista). Card shows up in Windows Explorer, I just dragged some music files in and they work great. (At least, it seemed that easy, I don't remember specifically "syncing".)

Not sure if it plays all formats (wma, mp3, etc.)

(I also installed the usb modem driver from the LG website. Not sure if that was necessary or not.)

Anyone know where to get an awesome deal on an external card?

USB modem driver is not needed - just hit music synch, then plug it in (or vice-versa) - go to my computer and you will see your LG VX5785 (or whatever) - double click to open and you can just drag to that folder (or the music folder inside it) worked first time for me no download needed or anything. (this was not via windows media player, I just dragged folders from my music over)
