My contacts were deleted my mistake. How do I get them back?

Ok so this is for my dads LG Chocolate touch phone. See what happened was he was trying to download that free backup assistant app on his phone so he could back up the contacts. Turns out the backup assistant app which should be free gives him an error message saying it cannot download. So now what he did was insert the memory card onto his phone and backup the contacts from his phone to his memory card. While the phone was doing that it froze and about a minute later it said these 2 following contacts need to be edited.

He clicked ok and the phone continued on. Now all his contacts from his phone have been deleted. He even checked his memory card on his phone but the memory card is empty. So we did a test with my phone and inserted his memory card into my phone and it still showed up empty. So I guess when the phone froze for that one minute something happened that caused his contacts to get deleted by mistake. Any ideas on what to do to get all his contacts from the list back?

Help is greatly appreciated. He only has 2 contacts on his phone which were the ones the phone asked to be edited. Also after going back he finally got the backup assistant app to download but it is too late now cause all the contacts were deleted before he got the app downloaded.
